LEFTOVER LIVES
Book
Brand new stories for second hand photography.
In 2018, over a roast chicken and Belgian beers on a Sunday, inspiration struck Simon Frankart and I when we stumbled upon photographs found in a trash can. Over drinks and conversation, stories emerged spontaneously, giving a life back to those photographs and then to Leftover Lives ; first as an Instagram project, and now as a book.
Leftover Lives is a collection of 60 photographs from the 20th century, each paired with a short narrative we wrote that reinterprets the image.
By pairing these stories and dialogues with photographs of strangers, the authors challenge our first impressions.
The reinterpretations, laced with humor, offer a way to explore moments from the past through the lens of today.
