Mitsue-San is a talented Noh Mask maker. She works in Kyoto where she also have a school of her own where she teaches the art of mask making.
Sueshiro Sano - Wood Bike Maker
Shueshiro Sano is a former boat maker. His family used to make wooden boat since 8 generations. Then his two brothers broke the tradition and went to plastic boats making.
Because he wanted to give a sense to this old savoir-faire that he inherited from his family, he started to make very lightweight wooden boats. But because people in Japan didn’t understands the point in his work he made a wooden bicycle in order to show them how wooden made objects could be light and efficients.
Since then, he handly made really high-end wooden bicycle on specials orders.
Fujiwara Kanefusa - Sword Maker
Fujiwara’s Family is blacksmithing traditional blades since 25 generation. This 800yo savoir-faire is now carried on by Kanefusa-San and his son. He’s working in the prefecture of Gifu.
Yamamoto Akihisa inherited the art of casting bronze mirrors from his father and grandfather. Each piece is casted into a carved mold before being rasped with differents blades then polished with coal. It results in incredibles handmades mirrors used in traditional temples. He also makes magic mirrors that creates pictures in the reflection of the light. He lives and works in Kyoto.
In addition of being the Head Zen Priest of Kenko-ji Temple; Masuno-San is an internationally recognized Garden Master, entei designer. Each garden he creates is a step in his quest of a higher understanding of himself.
Hidenobu Takahashi / Smile Neon
Hidenobu-San makes and design handmade neon signs in Yokohama. Each piece is drawn in the first place then he bend glass tubes by putting them in a controlled fire. He manage the pressure inside the tube with his breath in order to keep a balanced heat inside and outside the tube. He can make either really big signs for hotels of Artists (like Skrillex) but he also has a personal work shown in different exhibitions.
Shinichi Konno - Cherubim
Shinichi-San’ father created the company that his son is now running. This company was created in order to provide specific bikes to his uncle who uses to run in the Olympics. Nowadays Shinichi-San creates full custom bikes and want to challenge the conventional way of designing bicycle. The main difficulty in this purpose is that “with a car you can shape the body car as you want but you don’t have this opportunity with bikes so you have to think the whole thing differently. “ he says.
Jota Tanka is an internationally recognized and prized Whisky Blender. He works for the Kirin Fuji-Gotemba Distillery at the bottom of the Mt. Fuji as the Master Blender of the distillery.
Yasuto Suzuki - Omoto
Yasuto San Used to work in a clothes company in Tokyo as a Designer but wanted to runaway from the city life, so he moved back in his family house in the Fukushima Prefecture. He has the will to become a blacksmith, but wanted to do it in a specific way. That’s why each one of this blade is absolutely unique, he leaves the marks of the hammer and only polish the cutting part of the blade. When he feels that a blade is especially good he uses a star map to dig holes in the blade that shapes a constellation.
Tomoko Suzuki - Omoto
Tomoko is from Fukushima Prefecture. She's as textile worker. She design clothes and works with his Husband Yasuto-san, making the sheaths with a unique patchwork design every-time. She manly uses indigo as this is a color she especially loves.
Mio Heki is a Kintsugi Artists. She works in her craft shop in the suburb of Kyoto. She also give workshops in the Netherlands, Spain and Paris about her art.
Kintsugi is a typical japanese art that consist in repairing broken pottery with lacquer and Gold. The products come to Mio Heki as a really complicated puzzle that she glue the pieces with a rice cake based glue. She then put many layers of lacquer (Red or black) and apply pure gold power on the lasts ones. She always starts the work by learning the story of each pottery as she doesn’t want just to repair a product but to give him a second life.
Atsushi is an actor and dancer. He combines traditionals dances technics and Modern contemporary ones. He works internationally. He also possess an impressive collection of Kimonos and obis. The obi he wears in the picture used to be made by the artisans that made the Emperor’s obis.
Mr. Nakamura / Kosoen
Nakamura San is an indigo dyer. He uses a really old technique from the Edo Period. All clothes are dyed by indigo color extracted naturally from a specific plants that turns blue instead of brown when dried.
Chiso Kimono Artisans
Junko-San is a Ikebana Master. She also lives and takes care of a 1300 years old temple in Shiga prefecture. She appears in reviews and reports regarding japanese traditional arts in different magazines in the world.
Gen created the brand Gentake by himself. He’s weaving bamboo and design basketry and bags. He works alone, in a deeply isolated traditional house inside a mountain forest near Hamamatsu.
Takeshi San is engraving and finely cutting paper with yuzen patterns in order to make molds for coloring kimonos by hand. Since there is not so much demand for handmade kimonos anymore, he started making his own pieces decorated by the same technique. He also have fun by carving tablets and phone cases that shines as a drawing when lighten by the screen.
Sueo Okuda is a pottery maker in Shiga Prefecture. He’s using traditional techniques that requires a specific earth that can resist to really high temperatures.
Haruhiko Sowa is a green tea producer in Shiga Factory. His products wons several prizes in Japan.

Mako-San is a traditional dancer and a very famous actress in Japan. She also run a dancing school in the Hiroo district in Tokyo. She works and lives half in Japan and the USA
